20 KEY FACTORS TO CHECK WHEN CHOOSING A TRAINER AND TRAINING COMPANY
How long has the trainer or consultant actively been involved in training on a commercial basis?
Do they have relevant experience in your market sector?
What 'range of services' can the trainer supply?Will this be important to you?
Can they provide a list of companies they have worked with, assignments carried out and good references?
Can they prove capability to deliver the type of consultancy and training you need? How?
Do they have a commercial background or experience which will give them credibility with course participants?
Are they prepared to write a proposal setting out clear course objectives and content?
Does the proposal impress you and convince you of the capability of the trainer to deliver the training?
Have you considered asking the trainer to give a presentation of the proposal?
Do you get a full set of course notes provided of good quality for each participant for reference purposes?
Are fee charges clearly stated so you know what you are paying for? Any extras?
Does the trainer run public courses or in-company workshops or both?
If in-company, do they tailor courses specifically to meet your needs or just provide a 'packaged' solution?
What sort of evaluation process of the course by participants attending is offered?
Does the trainer offer a post course review with you to discuss the benefits of the training and on-going consultancy if required?
Are you going to get a 'consultative approach' from the trainer and be able to work with them?
Are you looking for a long term 'partnership' with someone who has a wide range of expertise and can act as an 'outside resource'?
Is the trainer using 'leading edge technology'?
Is the trainer working on their own or are they part of a large training organisation?
Remember: 'big is not always best' in the consultancy and training business. You are buying an individual's expertise and experience to train your people!
